Cox boys punch ticket to State Final
The Cox Falcons got two goals and two assists from Will Martin in its 4-0 victory over host
Westfield in Saturday's VHSL Group AAA Boys Soccer Semifinal nightcap.  The Falcons will
take on Mills Godwin, a 2-0 winner over Hickory, in Sunday's 4pm State Championship
match.  It marks the most wins recorded by the Falcons in a single season and their first trip
to a state final for them or any Eastern Region boys side since 1997.  In AAA girls soccer
state semifinal action at Westfield High School, the Chantilly Chargers unloaded three goals
in the first 15 minutes to roll to a 3-0 win over Kempsville, ending the Chiefs' memorable run
at 13-6-2.  Chantilly advances to Sunday's 2pm State Championship match against Mills
Godwin who knocked out Cox by also logging a pair of early goals.  Jessie Klamut's 79th
minute goal wasn't enough for Cox as it fell 2-1 to the Central Region champs.

State semis and finals schedules adjust due to weather
Eastern Region fans looking to drive or fly up to Chantilly this weekend, please be advised.
Due to heavy rain accumulations the past three days in the DC Metro Area, combined with the
anticipation of more rain today, the 2009 Virginia High School League Group AAA Spring
Sports Jubilee has been postponed a day.  The Jubilee, home to this year's AAA State
Championships for soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and softball, is still slated to take place at
Westfield High School.  The State Soccer Semifinals, originally slated for tomorrow, will now
begin at NEW STARTING TIMES on SATURDAY, June 6, and the championship games will
be played on SUNDAY, June 7.  The National Weather Service issued a flood watch Thursday
for most locales in Northern Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland through Friday.
Additional rain is expected through Friday evening, but the forecast still calls for sunny skies
Saturday and Sunday with temperatures between the upper-70's and lower-80's.
