Western Branch needed overtime to beat Denbigh, 3-2. Two goals from McCollum... Five different Wolverines entered the scorebook as Woodside beat Warhill 5-2 on the Peninsula... Lake Taylor edged Hampton 1-0 on Michael Dominguez' sixth goal of 2010... Maithya and Hunt both picked up hat tricks for Green Run who routed Norcom 8-1. GIRLS: In Richmond, Cox allowed its first goal of the season and found itself down at the half, also a first. Not for long, as the Falcons avenged a State Semifinal loss to Mills Godwin, 3-1... Back home, Patrick's four goals led Green Run's uprising of Norcom, 11-0, while Bayside cruised 10-0 at home over Northampton, led by a pair of Marlin triples. Both the Stallions and Marlins go into April unbeaten. A curving left foot found Haley Baucom all alone for the match winner as the Grizzlies beat the visiting Cavaliers 3-2... Great Bridge spread four goals around different Wildcat players with its shutout win over Kecoughtan... Same thing happened to Western Branch who won 4-1 at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy... Hickory needed just one to win at Landstown, a Courtney Roach strike midway through the second frame... BOYS: Landstown took an early 2-0 lead over Hickory and didn't look back, hanging on for the 2-1 win in what has become an annual battle of Blackmores (coaches Eric Blackmore at Hickory and Andrew Blackmore at Landstown). Clay Newton with a goal and assist for the Eagles... Princess Anne broke through a battered Grassfield side and won 3-0 in Chesapeake to move to 3-2-0 on the season... A tough non-district schedule seems to be benefiting Warwick who took a 1-1 draw with Maury at Powhatan. With no officials arriving for their 2pm meeting Friday, Cox and Norfolk Academy ended up each playing Saturday doubleheaders. The Falcons beat the Bulldogs 3-0 then picked up a scoreless draw with Blacksburg while NA earned a 2-2 draw with Princess Anne in the nightcap. Kellam went unbeaten and unscored upon for the event by shutting out Jamestown 2-0 while First Colonial responded to their first loss of 2010 in a big way, beating Maury 4-0. March 26, 2010 Weather shortens Friday night schedule FieldTurf pitches displayed their primary positives on a rainy Friday in the Eastern Region - that you can play in almost any conditions. The proof was in the puddin' Friday at the closing leg of the Maury (Boys) Invitational at Powhatan Field and the opening of the Virginia Beach (Girls) Soccer Showcase at the Sportsplex. Oh, and a few games went off on natural grass. BOYS: Kecoughtan leveled their road match at Salem with a late Max Wayman-Arndt regulation goal, then won in overtime with a Josh Richardson strike to beat Salem 2-1... At Powhatan, Kellam shook off its Wednesday night draw with a 3-0 decision over host Maury. Two goals from Logan Acercion. Earlier in the day, Great Bridge took a 2-1 victory over Ocean Lakes. Will Cason scored for the fifth time in six games for the Wildcats while the Dolphins go into Beach District play winless... In Central Virginia, Ocean Lakes fell short at Monacan, 3-1 to end the first week 0-3-1, while Princess Anne nearly erased a three-goal halftime deficit at James River before losing 3-2... Earlier in the day, Princess Anne put away Great Bridge by a 3-0 tally... On the North End, Cox opened its three-time Eastern Region title defense by obliterating Hickory 6-0. Molly Jarrett and Brittany Krause scored two apiece for the Falcons... Down the street, First Colonial didn't need a bus to travel to their Thursday opponent as it was literally next door. Jamie Robinson scored his first goal of the season in match-winning fashion for Grassfield who also picked up a 1-0 result over Tallwood... Some Beach teams earned wins on Tuesday. Coach Kevin Freeman reported to Eastern Region Soccer Online that Indian River/Tabb has been shifted up to tonight at 7pm due to the wet grounds. GIRLS: The girls portion of the Maury Invitational opened at Powhatan Field Tuesday with the Beach District teams going a combined 0-2-1. Senior Mary Morgan scored her first of many more goals in 2010 to lead the host Commodores to a 1-0 win over Princess Anne...
